MASSENA — Stella C. Reid, 86 of Massena, passed away on August 3, 2012 at the St. Regis Nursing Home. Stella was born on September 9, 1925 in Massena the daughter of Forrest and Lucinda (Bitterly) Chase. Stella married William M. Reid on September 28, 1947 at the First United Methodist Church with Rev Leslie A Potter officiating.

Mr. Reid predeceased her on June 22, 1989. She and her husband owned and operated Massena Paper Company until 1989,Stella was a library aide for Massena Central School retiring in 1997 after 21 years. Prior to her marriage Stella was employed at Alcoa with the War Rations effort. Stella is survived by a son William M. of Charleston, SC, three grandchildren, Megan, Matt and Mark all of Charleston SC ,a sister, Elaine Carville of Massena, Stella was preceded in death by brothers, John, Donald and Edward Chase and her sisters, Ella Haverstock, Mary Kingsley. Stella was a 40 member of the Massena Ladies Auxiliary Volunteer Fire Department, a member of the Cretona Chapter # 513 O.E.S. for over 40 years serving as the Grand Matron also a past member of the Rebekah Lodge in Massena Stella enjoyed gardening with her flowers, taking care of her lawn and especially following her grandchildren participating in their sporting events throughout high school and college.

Funeral services for Stella will be held on Wednesday (August 8, 2012 ) at 1:00 pm at the Phillips Memorial Home, Massena with Rev. Heather Stierheim ,Pastor of the First United Methodist Church officiating.

Interment will follow in Riverside Cemetery in Norwood. Friends and family may be received on Tuesday (August 7, 2012) from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at the Phillips Memorial Home in Massena. At the family’s request memorials may be made to Alzheimer’s Association of CNY, 441 West Kirkpatrick St., Syracuse, NY 13204
