LOWVILLE Irene G. Moshier, 93, died Saturday, August 4, 2012 at the Lewis County Residential Healthcare Facility under the care of her family, the nursing home staff, and Lewis County Hospice.
The funeral will be held at the Croghan Mennonite Church on Tuesday, August 7, 2012 at 10:30 am with Rev. Evan Zehr officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Calling hours are from 7 - 9 p.m. on Monday, August 6, 2012 at the church. Contributions may be made to the Lowville Mennonite Church Sewing Circle., P.O. Box 167, Lowville, NY 13367. Arrangements are with Iseneker Funeral Home, Inc., Lowville.
She is survived by four children and their spouses: Frederick D. and Marcia Moshier of Harrisonburg, VA; Joseph L. Moshier of Harrisonburg, VA; Cynthia and Charles Ward of Constableville; and Norman J. and Krystyna Moshier of Martinsburg. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband Norman J. Moshier; five brothers Simon, Allen, Harvey, Andrew, and Manassah Gingerich who died in infancy; and three sisters Vera Erb, Esther Schrag, and Edna Gingerich who died in infancy.
Irene was born on June 18, 1919 in New Hamburg, Ontario, a daughter of the late Jacob and Lydia Lehman Gingerich. She attended country school on the Number Three Road and Lowville Academy. She worked as a housekeeper in the Lowville area prior to her marriage to Norman J. Moshier. Irene and Norman were married on October 1, 1945 at the Lowville Mennonite Church with Rev. Lloyd Boshart officiating. The couple owned and operated a dairy farm in New Bremen up until Normans death in Feb., 1954. Following, Irene was employed with Lowville Academy working in the cafeteria and as a bus driver for 14 years. She was employed with Kraft Foods in Lowville for 10 years before retiring in 1982.
Irene was a member of Lowville Mennonite Church, and the churchs sewing circle. She enjoyed traveling, crosswords, and was an avid gardener.
