Carthage

Reunion: Carthage Central School’s Class of 1962 will be holding a 50th reunion on Saturday, Sept. 15, and Sunday, Sept. 16. The reunion committee is looking for contact information on Jane Bonner Newman, Sharon Hughes Plumadore, Donna Mushtare Bishop, Jane Boak Mess, Patricia Clark, Shirley Norris, Elaine Ward Barber, Dawn Stevens Everett, Donna Jameson Puckett, Diane Wood Norealt, Robert Barker, Ruth Gill Howery and Anne Jamieson Bellamy. Milestones

Ogdensburg

Milestones: Jeremy D. Smithers, Morristown, has been promoted to kitchen supervisor, and Suzanna M. Friot, Rensselaer Falls, has been hired as a cook at RiverLedge Residence, Ogdensburg.

Mr. Smithers has been an employee of United Helpers for 17 years, starting as dietary aide and promoted to full-time cook after four years. He was promoted to kitchen supervisor in April.

Ms. Friot graduated from Paul Smith’s College with a degree in culinary arts in 2010. She was hired as a cook at RiverLedge in February.

Winners

St. Lawrence County

Winners: Winners have been announced for the St. Lawrence County Emergency Services Bravery Award Design Contest. The contest selected the design for the St. Lawrence County Emergency Services award for bravery and acts above the call of duty. The award, patterned after military “challenge coins,” was won by Steve Parker for the firefighters coin and Emily Cafarella, 13, for the EMS award. Each winner received a $100 prize, copy of their design and a letter of congratulations from Joseph Gilbert, director of Emergency Services. The awards were presented at the St. Lawrence County Board of Legislators monthly meeting on July 9.

Air Force Airman Christopher W. McKeown, son of Brenda Morrow, State Street, Ogdensburg. Mr. McKeown is a 2005 graduate of Ogdensburg Free Academy. He earned a bachelor’s degree in 2011 from SUNY Potsdam.

Hopkinton

Receives Ph.D.: Michael E. Hopkins, Philadelphia, Pa., recently received a doctorate degree in psychological and brain sciences from Dartmouth College, Hanover, N.H. He also received the Hannah Croasdale Award for excellence. Mr. Hopkins’s research explored the benefits of exercise on brain function. Mr. Hopkins is coauthor of 13 published articles. His work has been highlighted on the website of National Institutes of Health and featured in national news media, including The New York Times and Huffington Post.

Mr. Hopkins also received a departmental teaching award and earned honors in Dartmouth’s medical school. Mr. Hopkins, son of Anne and Steve Hopkins, Hopkinton, is a graduate of Parishville-Hopkinton Central School, Parishville, received a bachelor’s degree in behavioral neuroscience from Colgate University, Hamilton, and attended the Clarkson School, Potsdam. He was a colon cancer research assistant at Rockefeller University, New York City, and is a fellow at SpecialtyCare, Inc., Philadelphia, a company advancing the field of intraoperative neurophysiological monitoring.
