CLAYTON — The Thousand Islands Central school board has narrowed its superintendent candidates to three and plans to interview the finalists Monday with district staff and residents.

The finalists are Karen M. Donahue, superintendent of Lyme Central; Cammy J. Morrison, assistant superintendent of Gouverneur Central; and Nancy C. Taylor-Schmitt, middle school principal of Indian River.

Currently, Frank C. House, a retired superintendent of South Lewis Central and Central Square school district’s former interim superintendent, is filling in since Joseph A. Menard left Thousand Islands at the end of June to become Central Square’s superintendent.

After Mr. Menard announced his move in March, the Thousand Islands Board of Education went to the Jefferson-Lewis Board of Cooperative Educational Services for assistance in finding a new leader.

Seven candidates were selected from among 45 applicants for the position, and the school board picked three finalists after initial interviews in mid-July.

The second round of interviews will involve administrators, faculty, non-instructional staff and the community at large.

The public will get to meet the candidates between 5:30 and 7:30 p.m. Monday at the middle/high school library, 8481 County Route 9.

Participants will be asked to submit written comments to the school board regarding their impressions of the finalists.
