LISBON — A warmer and sunnier summer than usual has not been lost on Lisbon Beach and Campground.

“This has been the busiest year,” said Campground Director Michael J. O’Neil, who has been in that position for nine years.

Mr. O’Neil did not have specific numbers of visitors to the campground and beach, but said he estimates the number of visitors this summer is up 15 to 20 percent over previous years.

Mr. O’Neil said the campground, that features various amenities including electric and non-electric sites, has had a waiting list every weekend this summer.

With the camp’s 75 campsites filled this summer, the fall will see new development at the popular recreation destination.

The town’s $173,000 project will see 11 new campsites added to the campground. The sites will include full water and sewer hookups and will be equipped with 50-amp outputs.

“We are breaking ground after Labor Day and will be ready to open in the spring,” said Mr. O’Neil.

The National Weather Service confirmed this summer to have been warmer than typical.

Marvin Blyd, a meteorologist out of Burlington, Vt., said, “We’ve had warmer than normal temperatures for the past 16 months.”

Furthermore, Mr. Blyd said precipitation has been down by about 2.5 inches so far this year.

“That might contribute to a positive camping experience,” he said.

This weekend, however, is expected to be wet and followed by a cool week.
