Barbara H. Mason, 85, of 8632 Lotts Point Road, Three Mile Bay and Cape Coral, formally of Watertown, died Tuesday evening at Country Manor Nursing Home, Carthage, where she had resided for the past four years in her final battle with Alzheimer’s.

The funeral will be 1pm Saturday, August 11, 2012 at the Reed & Benoit Funeral Home, 632 State St., Watertown. Burial will follow the service in Sanford Corners Cemetery, Calcium. Calling hours will precede the funeral from 11-1 at the funeral home.

Born February 27, 1927, she was a daughter of Frederick and Esther (Gibson) Huntington. She graduated from Watertown High School in 1944. Following high school, she worked in the purchasing department of the NY Air Brake, Watertown.

She married Harrison Mason of Point Peninsula on May 4, 1947 at Asbury Methodist Church with Rev. George McClung officiating, and Alma Roggenkamp Peterson and Eddy Colligan as attendants.

In 1961 Barbara and Harrison bought North Country Battery, which they operated until their retirement in 1985. Barbara was an active member of her high school, and was involved in several groups including cheerleading. She was also a member of the Rustic Golf Club, a past President of the Watertown Lioness Club, and a chaplain of the Ladies of the Elks of Cape Coral.

She and Harrison were avid boaters, traveling the St. Lawrence River, Lake Ontario, and the Gulf of Mexico. She traveled extensively after her retirement.

She is survived by 4 children: Mrs. Sheryl (Edward) Lachenauer, Three Mile Bay and Cape Coral, Mr. Frederick “Rick” (Cindy) Mason, Adams Center, Mr. Steven (Karen) Mason, Three Mile Bay, Mrs. Teena (Robert) Gregory, Three Mile Bay; a niece: Deborah Mason, Shrewport, LA; a nephew: Timothy Mason, Three Mile Bay; 8 grandchildren: Amy Lachenauer Gaffney, Delmar, John Lachenauer, Watertown, Rae-Ann Lachenauer Tarr, Simsonville, S.C., Nicole Mason Windley, N.C., Justin Mason, Three Mile Bay, Michael Gregory, Watertown, Jennifer Gregory McDonald, Three Mile Bay, Stephanie Mason, Adams; 13 great-grandsons & 1 great-granddaughter.

She is predeceased by her husband, Harrison Mason, her sister, Beverly Mason, and her brother-in-law, Oswald (Bub) Mason.
