WANAKENA- Gerald B. Jake Adams, 85, of Wanakena, passed away on Monday, August 6, 2012 at the Beechwood Nursing Home in Getzville, NY.
Jake was born on February 7, 1927 in Oswegatchie, NY, to the late Bernard and Cloy (Paro) Adams. He grew up in Oswegatchie, graduated from Oswegatchie High School, then entered the United States Marine Corp, until his honorable discharge in 1946. Jake married Lucille M. Bassett on July 19, 1947 at the Oswegatchie Baptist Church.
Jake worked for J & L Steel in Star Lake for 32 years as a millwright foreman. After retiring, he became a one-man company specializing in carpentry and construction. He was a fine-finish wood worker and built his own home. Jake enjoyed fishing, canoeing, kayaking, down hill and cross country skiing, snow boarding and jogging. His favorite hobbies were oil painting and cooking.
Surviving is his wife, Lucille Cille Adams of Wanakena; beloved father of Gary (Janet) Adams, Terry (Barb Loucks) Adams, David (Gerri) Adams and Linda (Tom) Ryan; cherished grandfather of Carie Hinton, Krista Roberts, Erin Adams, Marissa Adams, Kylie, Mike, Sean and Jonathon Ryan; great grandfather of Addam and Morgan Hinton and Olivia and Jack Roberts; uncle of several nieces and nephews; dearest brother of Ilene (Robert) Meek, Joyce (Jerry) Persons and Hilda Hartle and sister-in-law Dorothy Adams. Jake is predeceased by a sister, Bernice Robertson, and two brothers, Lewis Adams and Fred Adams.
Services will be private at the familys convenience. Arrangements are with French Family Funeral Home, Star Lake. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Wanakena Historical Association, or a charity of your choice.
