CARTHAGE- Margaret M. Segovis, 85, formerly of 696 South James St., died on Friday morning, August 10, 2012 at the Skilled Nursing Facility at the Carthage Area Hospital. She had been a resident since 2010.

Born in Watertown, on December 10, 1926, the daughter of Nelson A. & Mary Edna Peteau Huff. She graduated as salutatorian from the Carthage Augustinian Academy Class of 1944. She married Neil W. Segovis on January 6, 1945 at the St. James Catholic Church in Carthage. Mr. Segovis died on November 13, 1977.

She was employed as a cashier for the former A & P Market in Carthage and later worked as an artist for the former E. C. Crooks Memorials, Carthage, retiring in 1990. She was a member of the St. James Catholic Church, the VIP of St. James and a former member of the Senior Citizens organizations in Deferiet, Copenhagen and Natural Bridge.

She is survived by 3 daughters & 2 sons in law; Cheryl & Randy Newman, Natural Bridge, Kathie & Michael Liberatos, Carthage and Julie Laureano, Carthage. Also surviving are 2 sisters, Elizabeth LaBarge, Copenhagen and Mrs. Ron (Nancy) Guyette, Wisconsin, 7 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Margaret is predeceased by 2 brothers, Bernard and Carlton Huff, 3 sisters, Joan Avallone, Barbara Santamour and Patricia Swafford and a granddaughter, Alexandria Liberatos.

A Funeral Mass will be held at St. James Catholic Church, Carthage on Tuesday, August 14th at 11:00 AM with the Rev. George F. Maroun, Pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in New St. James Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the Scherer Funeral Home, which is located at the Lundy Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Inc., 500 State St., Carthage, on Monday, August 13th from 1 – 3 & 6 – 8 PM.

Memorial donations can be made to the Carthage Augustinian Academy, 317 West St., Carthage, NY 13619.
