Norma L. Barnes, 91, formerly of Cape Vincent, died Wednesday, August 8, 2012, in Utica.

A graveside service will be at the convenience of the family in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Clayton. Arrangements are with Cummings Funeral Service, Inc., Clayton.

Mrs. Barnes was born in Syracuse on January 30, 1921, daughter of Henry T. and Alzonia L. Page Thomas. She graduated from high school on Long Island and had attended college in Hot Springs, AR. Two marriages ended in divorce.

Norma worked for Onondaga County in several departments, including social services, family court, the D. A. office, and for several years for Syracuse City Court. After she retired she moved to Hot Springs, AR and returned to the north country in 2000. She was Catholic and an avid animal lover.

She is survived by her daughter and her husband, Cheryl L. and R. J. Ebert, Johnson City; one granddaughter; brother, Paul B. Thomas, East Walpole, MA; sister-in-law, Margaret Thomas, Watertown; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by her daughter, Crystal L. Barnes, and her two brothers, Theodore J. “Ted” Thomas and James Thomas.
