The Watertown City Council should know tonight how much progress a Long Island developer has made to convert the vacant Woolworth Building on Public Square into 60 apartments.

New partner David Gallo is expected to make a presentation to the council about the $7.275 million project during a work session at 7 p.m. in the third-floor council chambers at City Hall, 245 Washington St.

On Friday, Mr. Gallo confirmed he will attend the work session. Council members should find out about the project’s development plans and the finances’ progress, said Kenneth A. Mix, the city’s planning and community development coordinator.

Mr. Gallo also wants to talk with council members about acquiring from the city the CitiBus transfer station behind the building on Arcade Street and some land across Public Square near the Woodruff Professional Building. They would be used for parking.

Council members will have to decide whether they want to part with the bus station and build a new one closer to the Jefferson County Courthouse on Arsenal Street. It may become a sticking point. Michael A. Treanor, the Long Island developer who proposed the project, has said that land is needed or the project will not proceed.

Mr. Gallo was on his way to Watertown in April to meet with council members but canceled the appearance because he was stuck in traffic in Pennsylvania and would not get there in time.

Since then, the city and Mr. Gallo have been trying to reschedule the meeting. Mr. Treanor will not attend tonight’s session.
