Veronica M. Rockhill, 91, of Moira, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 12, 2012 at her home while under the care of her loving family and Hospice of the North Country.
Funeral services are with the Flint Funeral Home, Moira.
Veronica was born in Brushton on June 2, 1921, the daughter of the late Walter and Julia (Soussie) Allen, and graduated from Brushton High School. She was united in marriage to Alton D. Rockhill on March 28, 1942. The ceremony took place at the rectory at St. Marys Church, Brushton, with the Rev. Kennedy presiding. Mr. Rockhill predeceased her September 27, 2005.
For many years, Veronica took care of her family and worked out of the home. She drove kids to school using her own vehicle. She worked at Pearts Department Store and sold Avon door to door, as well as being a co-owner and co-operator of the family farm. For 15 years, she owned the A & V Rockhills Grocery Store and was known as the friendly person to the community. Upon her retirement in 1981, she enjoyed traveling back and forth with her husband to their winter home in Zephyrhills, Florida.
She is survived by her three sons and daughters-in-law, Alton E. (Evelyn) Rockhill of Moira, Craig and Karen Rockhill of Zephyrhills, Fla., and Phillip Rockhill of Moira; two daughters and sons-in-law, Phyllis and Wayne Palmer of Moira, Julia Kirche of Zephyrhills, and Sharon Reardon of Malone. Also surviving Veronica are her nine grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Veronica will be fondly missed by her faithful dog, Scooter.
Besides her husband and parents, she was predeceased by a granddaughter, Christine Palmer-Russell; twin great-grandchildren; a sister Loretta Delosh; half-sister Chris Zhan; and four brothers Ray, Gordon Allen, Edward Gonyea and Hayward Gonyea.
Friends may call at the funeral home Wednesday, August 15 from 4 to 7 p.m. Funeral services honoring Veronicas life will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Flint Funeral Home, Moria.
Interment will follow in St. Marys Cemetery, Brushton where she will forever rest beside her beloved husband, Alton D. Rockhill.
