Ogdensburg
Milestone: Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center, Ogdensburg, recently honored Joanne Garno for 50 years of service to the center. She received an engraved clock at a recent celebration. Mrs. Garno started service at the hospital on July 10, 1962 as a billing clerk and moved to payroll clerk on Aug. 1, 1969.

Boonville
Graduates: Colllin Cihocki, Boonville, was on of 17 male and female students, between 16 and 17 years old, to graduate from the Junior Fire Fighter Camp on June 29, from Mohawk Valley Community College, Utica. The camp, in conjunction with the Oneida County Fire Chiefs Association, Oneida County Volunteer Firemens Association, MCCC and Utica Fire Academy and Training Facility, was held on campus from June 25 to 29.

Honored: Kristen Canales, daughter of Luis Canales and Susanne Daye, Massena, was named to the high honor roll for the spring term at Kent (Conn.) School. Miss Canales is a student in the fifth form, or 11th grade.
Scholarships
Belleville, Copenhagen
Scholarships: John Allen, Belleville, and Ryan Willits, Copenhagen, recently received $1,500 scholarships from Farm Credit East, the northeasts largest agricultural lending cooperative. Mr. Willits will attend Morrisville State College to major in agricultural science and education to pursue a career in agricultural education. Mr. Allen will major in agricultural business at Cornell University, Ithaca, to pursue a career as a business operator.
Clayton
Scholarship: Joshua Farmer, Clayton, was one of 10 recipients of a $1,000 Firemens Association of the State of New York Gerald J. Buckenmeyer Volunteer Scholarship. Mr. Farmer, recent graduate of Thousand Islands Central School, Clayton, received the scholarship check and certificate at the schools awards night on June 22 for his volunteer service in the community. He is a member of the Clayton Fire Department and volunteers with the Thousand Island Emergency Rescue Service and Fire Prevention in local elementary schools. Mr. Farmer plans to attend Castleton (Vt.) State College. Pictured with Joshua is his father, John Farmer.

Honored: Betsy D. Penrose, Watertown, vice president for students at Jefferson Community College, Watertown, received the William A. Troy Service Award at the State University of New York Financial Aid Professionals annual conference on April 19 in Corning.
Ms. Penrose worked for eight years as JCCs director of financial aid prior to 2006, when she was appointed to dean for Enrollment Management and Student Life, now vice president for students. She is a past president of SUNYFAP, 2004 to 2006, and served for nearly 10 years on the board of directors for the JCC Foundation. Ms. Penrose has a bachelors degree in mathematical science from Pennsylvania State University, University Park, Pa., and a masters degree in systems management from the University of Southern California, Los Angeles, Calif. In 2003, she received the SUNY Chancellors Award for Excellence in Professional Service.
