Seven north country bridges will get repairs, according to an announcement made Tuesday by the state Department of Transportation.

A $31.3 million contract was awarded through the NY Works program to Kubricky Construction Corp., Wilton, and design consultant VHB Engineering, Surveying & Landscaping Architecture, Albany. The project is estimated to create 430 jobs.

Among the first projects to see repairs will be the bridge carrying Route 68 over Grannis Brook in Canton. Work on the bridge will include a replacement of its deck, along with the installation of new bearings.

Repairs are scheduled to begin this month and wrap up in the fall. With the bridge closing during the repair work, a detour will use Route 56 and Route 11.

Several other local bridges are scheduled to receive deck replacements starting next year.

■ Interstate 81 northbound and southbound over Route 232 in Watertown.

■ Route 971V, an access road from Route 3 to Fort Drum, over Black River, LeRay.

■ Route 193 over Interstate 81 northbound and southbound in Ellisburg.

■ Route 177 over the North Branch of Sandy Creek in Rodman.

■ Route 458 over the St. Regis River in Waverly.

■ Route 812 over the Indian River in Croghan.
