CLAYTON — Save the River recently honored five of its volunteers in appreciation of their outreach efforts.

In a released statement, officials said the volunteers recognized Thursday at an annual Volunteer Appreciation Event — Sharon Dilworth, Donald Dilworth, Fran Getman, Doreen Meeks and Anne Mellon — spent more than 140 hours helping the organization reach out to the community regarding various Save the River programs, campaigns and issues concerning the St. Lawrence River.

Almost 10,000 pieces of mail were folded, stuffed into envelopes, sealed, stamped and delivered to the post office, the group said.
