GOUVERNEUR The town dog-control officer has been reprimanded for not following proper procedure when he picked up a dog two weeks ago.
The letter of reprimand from the Town Council was approved during its Tuesday meeting attended by about 20 people many of them associated with the Friends 4 Pound Paws group who were unhappy with the job performance of Daniel R. Moyer. Mr. Moyers girlfriend, Marcy Bigelow, who had been his volunteer deputy, resigned.
Town Supervisor Robert R. Ritchie said Mr. Moyer and Ms. Bigelow found a stray dog at the Gouverneur & St. Lawrence County Fair and tied it up at a home where they thought it belonged. However, the dog belonged to someone else.
The protocol in such instance calls for the dog to be taken to the pound. Any further incidents could result in a week without pay for Mr. Moyer or his dismissal, Mr. Ritchie said.
