Bethany Mae Deserre, 85, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 15, 2012 with her sons at her side. Calling hours will be held at Frary Funeral Home on Saturday, August 18, 2012 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m.; with funeral on Sunday, August 19, at 11:00 a.m. with Walter Smith officiating, followed by interment at Foxwoods Memorial.
Bethany was born in Depeyster, New York on August 7, 1927 to the late Orsa and Ella Jones Stevenson. Bethany attended Heuvelton schools. She married Edward Deserre of Ogdensburg, November 9, 1956.
Bethany retired from state employment in 1987 after 38 years having worked at both Saint Lawrence Psychiatric Center in Ogdensburg, and Marcy State Hospital in Utica, NY. After retiring she worked part- time at the Ogdensburg Journal in the circulation department.
She is survived by her husband, Edward of Utica, NY, her sons Steven (Lisa) of Scotia, NY and Joseph (Charlene) of Pouqhquag, NY; her six grandchildren Megan (Donald) Ruf, Courtney (Daniel) Reichert, Alec, Brian, Abigail, and Caelyn Deserre and one great grandson Lucas Ruf; her sister Miriam Wainwright of Depeyster, NY as well as several nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her son Peter and three sisters, Ruby Moore, Mildred (Mickey) Scott, and Helen Jackson.
Bethany enjoyed the friendship and company of many people in Ogdensburg and the North Country. She greatly enjoyed her Bingo outings and the company of her dogs. She enjoyed crocheting in front of the television as an evening pastime. She volunteered at the St. Vincent de Paul Thrift store.
