Clayton;Mr. John A. Brown, age 83, died Tuesday at Carthage Area Hospitals Skilled Nursing Facility where he has been a resident for two months. His funeral will be at noon on Saturday at the T.R. Jetty Funeral Home in Clayton. Calling hours will be 10am until the time of the service on Saturday.
John was born March 29th, 1929 in Gananoque Ontario, the son of Earnest and Francis Carnegie Brown. He attended Grindstone Island schools.
On September 23rd, 1951, he married the former Carol Matthews. Carol died February 13th 1994.
John owned and operated Browns Boating Repair in Clayton for a number of years and was co-owner of the bar Stop Awhile, formerly Camp Woodland.
He enjoyed hunting, making and painting model ducks and snowmobiling.
Surviving are five sons, John Andrew of Clayton, Victor of Watertown, David (Jean) of Chaumont, Richard P. of Clayton and William and his fiancÚ Lisa Solar of Plessis; two daughters, Susan L. and her companion Danny Gushlaw of Clayton and LuAnn and her companion Meade Bishop of Clayton; one son-in-law, Les Sanford of Cape Vincent; ten grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren; two sisters, Mary Garnsey of Clayton and Jessie Hill of Florida; nieces and nephews.
Two daughters, Vickie Sanford and Cindy Lou Brown as well as two brothers Bob and Junie pre deceased him.
