Massena: Elvera V. Neves, 85, of Park Av. Massena, passed away on August 16,

2012 at Massena Memorial Hospital. She was born on October 18, 1926 in Massena the daughter of John and Barbara (Karaba) Stoyka. Elvera married Rene O. Neves on October 4, 1946 at St. Mary’s Church in Massena. Mr.

Neves predeceased her on May 19, 2012. She was employed at Alcoa as a clerk prior to her marriage. She was a member of the League of Sacred Heart at St.

Mary’s, a member of St. Lawrence County Rock-Mineral Club, Massena Senior Citizens, she was a long time communicant of St. Mary’s Church. Elvera volunteered a lot of her time working the concession stand for Massena Minor Hockey League back in the 1960’s at Alcoa field. She enjoyed gardening, spending time with her children and grandchildren cooking for them, especially Hungarian food. She is survived by her children; David R. of Port Jervis, NY; Philip T. and wife Linda of Mitchell, IN; Rene W. and wife Denise of Louisville, NY: Mark and wife Barbara of Manlius, NY: Mary Ellen and husband Donald Costello of Glenn Allen, VA: Julie and husband Mike Gaskins of Rock Hill, SC: nine grandchildren,a sister in-law Jeannette and her husband David Premo of Tupper Lake, NY. She was predeceased by sisters, Marrie and Yolanda Stoyka, and a brother John. A Mass of Resurrection will be held on Monday, August 20, 2012 at 10:00 am at St. Mary’s Church in Massena with Rev. Scott Fobare presiding;Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery. Friends and family may call on Sunday from 2-6 pm at the Phillips Memorial Home in Massena. League of Sacred Heart at St. Mary’s will meet at 5:00 pm at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Catholic Endowment Fund or Hospice & Palliative Care of St. Lawrence Valley.
