HENDERSON — Two boaters had to be rescued by the Coast Guard on Saturday afternoon when their 22-foot Bayliner began taking on water and sinking off Stony Point in Lake Ontario.

Chief Officer Joshua Martin said the distress call came in about 1:40 p.m. from two unnamed out-of-town boaters who were fishing for salmon. The rescue crew, consisting of Petty Officers Garret Hodgson and Jimmy Stefanidis and Chief Officer Martin, arrived at the scene within 10 minutes and safely got the people off the boat.

The two petty officers used hand pumps to get rid of the water in the boat. No one was injured.

“We definitely saved the boat,” Chief Officer Martin said. “With the amount of water coming in, it definitely would have gone down.”

The Coast Guard crew towed the vessel to Lake Ontario Mariners Marina.
