CROGHAN Gilbert A. Adams, 72, Long Pond Rd, died Friday morning at his home while under the care of his friends and Lewis County Hospice.
There will be no funeral or calling hours. Arrangements are in care of the Adirondack Funeral Home, Croghan.
He was born in Lowville August 1, 1940. He was adopted by Maynard and Dorothy Bush Adams. He graduated from Father Leo Memorial School in Croghan. He served in the US Navy for three years after high school.
He owned and operated the Buckhorn Tavern in Long Pond for 24 years, retiring in 1995. He was a charter member of the Long Pond Snowsled Club, a charter member of the Jakes Pond Hunting Club, a member of the Deer Pond Hunting Club, President of the Lewis County Sportsmans Club for 12 years, President of the Harrisville Rod and Gun Club for the past seven years, Fish Chairman of Lewis County for 38 years. He was a member of Lowville VFW, the Croghan American Legion and the Lowville Elks.
He was an avid hunter and fisherman and a Black Label connoisseur. He was a wonderful storyteller and a dear friend to many.
