OGDENSBURG The City Council approved the purchase of a new electric Zamboni on Aug. 13.
Council members argued over whether the $120,000 price tag on the machine was justified, but a consensus of the council agreed to the purchase in lieu of two used models.
City Director of Parks and Recreation Matthew J. Curatolo is working on a resolution to purchase the machine but said it might take several months for the new Zamboni to arrive. In the meantime, he said, he is working on a plan to make sure ice is available at the Richard G. Lockwood Civic Center in November and December.
Ogdensburgs current 32-year-old Zamboni requires $24,000 in repairs, which includes rebuilding its engine, an expense Mr. Curatolo could not justify considering the machines age and use the city has rebuilt the engine twice since buying the unit.
