NYSUT NOD GOES TO RITCHIE: Freshman state Sen. Patricia A. Ritchie of Heuvelton was one of only nine Republicans in the chamber to be endorsed by New York State United Teachers, a 600,000-member teacher’s union in the state.
“Education has been and remains a priority for Senator Ritchie,” chief of staff Graham Wise said in an email.“She fought hard to deliver additional school aid to her district, despite these difficult economic times. In addition, she worked tirelessly to ensure that the issues facing low-wealth rural school districts were a top priority.”
She faces Oswego County legislator Amy Tresidder, a Democrat, on Nov. 6. Mrs. Tresidder said she respected NYSUT's decision.
The union also endorsed Assemblyman Marc Butler, R-Newport, who is facing Democrat Joseph Chilelli; and Assemblywoman Janet Duprey, R-Peru, who is facing Karen Bisso and David Kimmel in a Sept. 13 primary.
