Rep. Bill Owens, D-Plattsburgh, was endorsed by the Civil Service Employees Association Thursday, one of 24 Democrats to get the union's support.

Mr. Owens faces Republican Matt Doheny on Nov. 6.

Pointedly, the group skipped over most of the state legislative delegation for the north country.

"Many lawmakers who have long enjoyed CSEA support will not have it this year because they abandoned the working people of this state," CSEA President Danny Donohue said in a news release. "CSEA is holding lawmakers accountable for their actions. The CSEA endorsement has to be earned or else it has no meaning."

The union didn't endorse in the Nov. 6 race between state Sen. Patty Ritchie, R-Heuvelton and Democrat Amy Tresidder, an Oswego County legislator; or in the Sept. 13 primary between Assemblywoman Janet Duprey, R-Peru, and fellow Republicans Karen Bisso and David Kimmel. The winner will face Tim Carpenter in the general.

Assemblyman Marc Butler, R-Newport, was one of the few Republicans who was endorsed by the union. Mr. Butler is facing Herkimer County resident Joe Chilelli on Nov. 6.
