■ GOUVERNEUR The village Board of Trustees has appointed Michael P. Thayer as a part-time dispatcher for the police department.
■ CANTON The Canton Free Library has received a $1,500 grant from the Corning Incorporated Foundation that will be used to support programming and electronic media services.
■ The Disabled Persons Action Organization will host an open house and dedication ceremony for the DPAO William J. Farley Sensory Oasis, an outdoor playground area, from 1 to 3 p.m. Sept. 4 at 633 Davidson St.
■ Jefferson Community College will offer free shuttle services from the Watertown Municipal Arena parking lot to the Jules Center from Monday through Wednesday if there are parking restraints on the campus. The shuttle service will run on demand; students are advised to call campus security at 786-2222 for pickup.
