MASSENA — The KFC/Long John Silver’s restaurant, 232 Main St., Massena, closed its doors for good over the weekend.

But the decision wasn’t made locally, according to a spokesman for KFC.

“The company made the decision to terminate the franchise. KFC Corporation made that decision. That’s all I can tell you,” Rick Maynard said Monday, declining to indicate why the decision was made to close the restaurant.

Efforts to reach John Burns, the local franchise owner, were unsuccessful on Monday. A sign on the door indicated the restaurant was closed.

Kentucky Fried Chicken had been located at the site since 1971, and Mr. Burns, who owns the building and the businesses, added a Long John Silver’s in 2004.

The building housing both businesses and the businesses themselves had been up for sale.
