The state Department of Environmental Conservation issued a notice reminding new hunters and trappers that they must complete a mandatory education course before they go out during upcoming seasons.

In the release, the department said proof that a course had been completed was necessary before a license could be purchased. DEC recommended that a course be taken before seasons begin, as finding a course immediately before or during the hunting season may be difficult.
