HEUVELTON — Following two days of reorganizing, Pickens General Store has reopened the full ground floor to the public.

To mark the occasion, the store is hosting several local musicians over the weekend, as well as staying open Sunday during the weekend’s Labor Day parade.

Today will see Bob O’Marah and Bob Stewart playing at the store at 1 p.m., and Kerry Newell is slated to play Saturday afternoon.

Door prizes will be raffled off throughout the weekend.

The store, in the process of an exhaustive construction project, is known for its locally produced goods, often handcrafted by the area’s Amish community.

Thursday’s reopening of the entire first floor also marks the store’s new focus on local artists.

“We have a couple of photographers, a guy who does found-iron works, knitting and woven goods,” said Betsy C. Hebert, manager of the Pickens General Store online shop.

Ms. Hebert said the new layout does not maintain the division of food on one side of the store and crafted goods on the other side.

“I think it turned out real well,” David H. Kingsley, president of the Heuvelton Historical Association, said of the project.

Mr. Kingsley said the project also added inch-thick insulated glass to help with heating in the winter.

Yet to be installed are new doors on the front of the building.

Built by the Amish, the doors will be put in after Labor Day.
