CARTHAGE Emma Petrie, 97, formerly of Kriswood Drive in Floyd, New York, died Thursday, August 30, 2012, at the Country Manor Nursing & Rehabilitation Centre in Carthage.
She was born on March 4, 1915, in North Bangor, New York, to the late Bert and Hazel Aldrich Petrie. She attended Brushton School.
During her younger years Emma was employed in the Saranac Lake Area as well as Ray Brook Sanitarium. In 1940, she moved to Rome area and worked at Griffiss Air-Force Base until the end of the World War II. She later bought a home on Kriswood Drive and worked at the Rome State School as a staff attendant for 25 years retiring in 1970.
Emma was a member of the Floyd Sr. Citizens and the United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her sister, Hazel (Babe) Petrie Brown of Harrisville, NY; a nephew, Randy Brown, Pitcairn; and two nieces, Linda Larkin, Rochester; Susan Sibley, Ballston Spa. A Sister-n-Law, Eleanor Cass, Schenectady.
Emma is predeceased by 2 brothers, Ralph Petrie, Lawrence Petrie, and a nephew and niece, John and Jane Brown.
There will be no public calling hours. The Funeral will be held privately by the family at the Lundy Funeral Home with The Reverend Frances Hemstreet, Pastor of the Harrisville United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will follow in the Sunnyside Cemetery in Brushton, New York, with The Reverend Sheila Nichols, Pastor of the Brushton United Methodist Church, officiating.
Donations in her memory can be made to Floyd Methodist Church or the Floyd Volunteer Fire Department, or the American Cancer Society. Arrangements are being handled by the Lundy Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Inc., located at 500 State Street in Carthage.
