A hot and sunny July gave way to a cool, wet August to produce an “average” 18th summer season at Ogdensburg’s Elsa M. Luksich Municipal Pool.

The pool closes for the season on Monday, Labor Day.

“As of Thursday, we had a total of 9,700 people of all ages attend the pool in some capacity, whether it was for public swimming lessons, pool parties or other pool activities such as early bird swim, aqua aerobics and infant toddler swim,” recreation Director Matthew J. Curatolo said Friday.

Those activities and the numbers that framed them, he said, made for “an average year” at the Greenbelt.

And the weather can be both thanked and blamed.

“We had a really hot July, which saw great numbers at the pool, but they dipped this past month,” Mr. Curatolo said. “Of course, the weather wasn’t as hot as in July either, and we had a lot more rain as well. Due to the poor weather, we closed early five times this summer so far.”

It has yet to be ascertained how much revenues the pool generated through its admission fees of 50 cents for children and a dollar for adults, but the season passes totals were accounted for.

They were:

■ Adults, nine at $20 each for a total of $180.

■ Families, 19 at $35 apiece for a total of $665.

Four of those were scholarship passes that only had children on them for families of multiple children.

■ Children, 36 at $10 each for a total of $360. Ten of them were family-paid and the other 26 were covered by the city firefighters’ union.

A new feature this summer, pool parties, was well received.

“We had nine pool parties this year,” Mr. Curatolo said. “Parties were held on the weekends from 10 a.m. to noon only. This seemed to be a nice addition at the pool that people really seemed to enjoy.”
