Williams runs for 152 yards as Watertown blanks New Hartford

NEW HARTFORD — Diamond Williams ran for 152 yards on 16 carries and scored two touchdowns as Watertown High School opened its season with an impressive 46-0 blowout win over New Hartford in a Section 3 Class A National opener Friday night.

Williams scored on a 34-yard run, and also returned a fumble 52 yards for a touchdown.

Anton Gadson, who rushed for 84 yards, scored on runs of 22 and 3 yards for the Cyclones, and Colby King carried the ball nine times for 96 yards.

Shyheim Gadson also caught a 20-yard scoring strike from Mason Phillips.

CARTHAGE 34, OSWEGO 14

Wayne Timpson gained 206 yards rushing on 30 carries, and the Comets’ defense held the Buccaneers to just 117 total yards to earn the season-opening Class A National victory at Oswego.

Timpson scored three touchdowns on runs of 32, 13 and 1 yard for Carthage. Rodrick Groce added 55 yards and a score on nine rushes, and Steve Elam returned a fumble for another score.

Alex Makin ran for a pair of touchdowns for Oswego.

East Syracuse-Minoa 40, INDIAN RIVER 20

Jeff McDuffie rushed for four touchdowns to spark the defending Class A champion Spartans to an interconference victory over the Warriors at the Carrier Dome.

McDuffie ran for scores of 21, 7, 54 and 91 yards for East Syracuse-Minoa.

David Morin returned an interception 48 yards for a score for the Warriors. Jason Smith rushed for 81 yards on 20 carries for Indian River and scored a pair of touchdowns.

LOWVILLE 48, THOUSAND ISLANDS 6

Cameron Malick returned a punt for a touchdown and had a touchdown reception as the Red Raiders routed the Vikings in a Class C North opener at the Carrier Dome.

Billy Larkins racked up 123 yards rushing and a score for Lowville. Quarterback Isaac Widrick threw for a touchdown and ran for another.

Collin Bourcy had a 3-yard touchdown run for Thousand Islands.

SANDY CREEK 28, BEAVER RIVER 21

Wyatt Bush ran for 154 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Comets past the Beavers in the Class D Central Division opener for both teams at Sandy Creek.

Jake Benedict registered 11 tackles, while Mason McNitt provided three sacks for Sandy Creek (1-0).

Kyle Steiner led Beaver River (0-1) with a pair of touchdown runs.

ADIRONDACK 46, SOUTH LEWIS 20

Joe Marks rushed for two touchdowns and returned an interception for another as the Wildcats beat the Falcons in an interclass game at Turin.

Doug Pfeiffer also scored twice for Adirondack (1-0).

Dominick Ventura scored three times for the Falcons, including a 59-yard kickoff return, in their first game since 2010.

PULASKI 50, ORISKANY 28

Tom Taplin ran for three touchdowns and threw for two more as the Blue Devils defeated the Redskins in Class D Central game at Pulaski.

Travis Purdy caught both of Taplin’s TD passes from 60 and 69 yards for Pulaski (1-0).

MASSENA 40, TUPPER LAKE 20

Jordy Mitchell, Connor Paquin and Isaiah Perry each rushed for over 100 yards as the Red Raiders defeated the Lumberjacks in the Northern Athletic Conference opener for both teams in Tupper Lake.

Mitchell rushed for 163 yards on just eight carries, including two 49-yard touchdown runs, for Massena. Perry gained 124 yards on 19 carries and scored three touchdowns and Paquin finished with 116 yards on 11 carries.

Tupper Lake’s top play was a 72-yard kickoff return for a touchdown by Tyler Minogue.
