Shirley Six Woods of Alexandria Bay, NY, passed away on Thursday, August 30, at home in Alexandria Bay. Shirley was born and raised in the Valley of Syracuse, NY, on June 25, 1931, the daughter of August and Helen Six Shirley was a 1949 graduate of Blodgett Vocational High School in Syracuse and was always proud of the fact that as a Valley girl she graduated from Blodgett Vocational.

Shirley was employed as an Executive Secretary for a number of years with The Equitable prior to raising her family. In later years, she Managed the Gift Department at Chappells in Cortland, NY, and retired in 1992. At retirement, she and her husband divided time between Alexandria Bay and Tequesta, FL. They had resided and raised their family for over 30 years in Tully, NY.

Shirley was a gifted speed skater and participated in many speed skating events in Syracuse and throughout the northeast. She was honored to be an active member of The Glenngary Girls, an all female Scottish Marching Band from Syracuse who performed throughout the northeast and Canada. She was an active member of the Alexandria Township Historical Society and the River Hospital Auxiliary in Alexandria Bay. She was raised and married as a member of Atonement Lutheran Church in Syracuse and was currently a member of The Church of St. Lawrence in Alexandria Bay.

Surviving are her husband Perry B. Woods Jr. and son Dean C. Woods of Tully, NY. Also surviving are her brother, Donald H. Six of New Port Richey, FL, her sister, Joyce Six Lawless of Lafayette, NY, and several nieces and nephews. Shirley was predeceased by three young adult children, Perry III, Geoffrey and Elizabeth Vashti Woods.

There will be no calling hours. Graveside Services will be lead by Rev Robert Overmier at The Tully Cemetery in Tully, NY on Wednesday, September 5, 2012, at 1 PM. Hartwell Funeral Home in Tully, NY, is handling all arrangements. In lieu of flowers, Perry and Dean are requesting that you consider a donation to the local Cystic Fibrosis Foundation Chapter, 5818 East Malloy Rd. Syracuse, NY 13211.
