Five riders in an extended cab pickup escaped Monday afternoon after fire broke out in the truck after it overturned off Miser Road in the town of Rutland.
Two required treatment at Samaritan Medical Center. The driver, Christopher M. Ward, 19, of 232 N. Indiana Ave., was in shock and had chest injuries, according to state police, and Tineessa Nelson, 19, address not available, was treated for shock.
Police said the accident occurred at about 4:35 p.m., when the westbound 2003 Chevrolet pickup went off the road and went down an embankment. Rutland Fire Chief Jerry Kirch said all five occupants of the cab, including a 16-year-old and two 17 year-olds, were wearing seat restraints.
Fire broke out inside the cab, possibly from an electrical short circuit caused by the accident, he said, gutting the cab.
Rutland and town of Watertown fire responders were at the scene about 25 minutes.
The state police investigation is continuing.
