Lucy Schafer, 70, Dexter, passed away Tuesday, September 4, 2012 at the Samaritan Medical Center.

Miss Schafer was born April 7, 1942 in DePauville, a daughter of Lawrence and Myrtle Cousin Schafer. At the age of seven Miss Schafer attended Rome Developmental Center. In 1975 she came to Jefferson Rehabilitation Center in Carthage and later to JRC’s Day Treatment Program. Miss Schafer volunteered for the SPCA and Meals on Wheels.

Surviving are her three sisters and a brother in law; Evelyn and Sherman Bidwell, Carthage, Kathy Britton, Carthage and Margaret Myers, Natural Bridge, a sister in law, Virginia Schafer, Watertown, several nieces and nephews. A brother Roger Schafer and her twin brother Lawrence, Jr. died before her.

Lucy’s sisters would like to thank the staff of Jefferson Rehabilitation Center of West Carthage and Dexter for giving her such great care and friendship.

Calling hours will begin Monday at 10 am until the funeral service at noon with Reverend Leon Schilling officiating. Burial will be in DePauville Cemetery. Arrangements are with D.L. Calarco Funeral Home, Inc.
