CANTON Three people were injured, one critically, in a two-vehicle accident about 2:30 p.m. Saturday on County Route 27 south of the village.
St. Lawrence County sheriffs deputies said a Honda Civic Si coupe driven by Thom T. Byrne, 18, Utica, entered County Route 27 from a private access road and pulled in front of a Dodge pickup truck driven by Andrew M. Bregg, 28, Canton.
Mr. Byrne and his passenger, Damien Cuellar, 19, Canton, were removed from the Honda via hydraulic rescue tool and were taken to Canton-Potsdam Hospital, Potsdam, where Mr. Cuellar was treated for a head laceration.
Mr. Byrne, who suffered severe head and body trauma, was transferred to Fletcher Allen Health Care, Burlington, Vt., where he was listed in critical condition Saturday night.
Mr. Bregg suffered a possible broken arm and was taken to Canton-Potsdam Hospital.
Deputies said the investigation is continuing and charges may be filed.
