AMSTERDAM Five different Red and Black players scored a rushing touchdown to help Watertown defeat Amsterdam, 55-0, in Saturdays Empire Football League matchup at Lynch Middle School.
The Red and Black, which improved to 4-2 on the season, posted its first regular season shutout in more than two years. Watertown beat the Massena Silver and Black Raiders, 23-0, on July 31, 2010.
Everybody played great on the defense, Red and Black coach George Ashcraft said. I couldnt be happier with them.
Joe Brennan broke off a 65-yard touchdown run and quarterback Brian Williams ran one in from 19 yards out in the first quarter for Watertown, which led 20-0 at the end of the first quarter and 42-0 at halftime.
Harold Taylor, Anthony Noel and Jeremy Brennan each ran in a score from inside the 10-yard line for the Red and Black.
Taylor also scored on a 60-yard punt return.
Josh Cox caught a 23-yard touchdown pass from Williams, the first passing touchdown for Watertown in its last three games.
The Red and Black, which is closing in on an EFL playoff spot with three games remaining, will host the Glens Falls Greenjackets at 7:30 p.m. this Saturday at the Alex T. Duffy Fairgrounds in its military appreciation night.
The Red and Black will then travel to Plattsburgh and host Syracuse to close out the regular season.
