LISBON – Lisbon Beach and Campground has begun its $173,000 renovation project to add an additional 11 campsites and upgrade over two dozen current sites.
The town as part of the project is also adding a road bypassing the campsites to give boaters more direct access to the St. Lawrence River. Funded through the New York Power Authority, the project will enable the campground to host more large motorhomes and fifth-wheel trailers.
People come from all over the country, said Campground Director Michael J. ONeil, adding that they often come in large vehicles.
Monday saw construction crews break ground on the project, taking away layers of topsoil that will be replaced after the project is finished.
The project will see 11 new sites with water, electricity and sewer hookups; 21 current sites getting sewer hookups added; and eight current sites getting water access.
Additionally, Mr. ONeil wants to remove some of the brush growing along the banks of the St. Lawrence to give campers a better view.
The current project is contracted to Fiacco and Riley Construction, Norwood.
The Lisbon Beach and Campground is open until Oct. 15.
