Thesier, Favret lift Cyclones in pool

Brittney Thesier and Samantha Favret each won two races and contributed to a pair of fastest relays to lead Watertown to a 105-76 victory over South Jefferson on Tuesday in a Frontier League Northern “A” Division swimming meet at Watertown High School.

Thesier captured the 200 freestyle and 100 butterfly, while Favret claimed the 50 and 100 freestyles for the Cyclones (1-1 overall, 1-0 league).

Jensen Beale took the 100 backstroke and Megan Scully the 100 breaststroke for the Spartans(0-1).

CARTHAGE 95, INDIAN RIVER 81

Desiree Hodge captured the 50 and 100 freestyles and anchored the first-place 200 free relay to help the Comets earn a season-opening “A” Division victory at Carthage.

Claire Sauter added wins in the 200 and 500 freestyle races for Carthage.

Rachael Rodriquez claimed the 100 butterfly and 100 backstroke and anchored the winning 400 free relay for Indian River.

THOUSAND ISLANDS 99, BEAVER RIVER 72

Erica Sullivan captured the 50 and 100 freestyle races and anchored a winning relay to help power the Vikings to a “B” Division victory at Clayton.

Darien Frederick won the diving event, was fastest in the 100 breaststroke and contributed to a first-place relay for Thousand Islands (1-0).

Keegan Bowman claimed the 100 butterfly and 100 backstroke and swam on two winning relays for Beaver River (1-1, 0-1).

SOUTH LEWIS 62, LOWVILLE 40

Chloe Stinebrickner captured the 200 individual medley and 100 freestyle and anchored two first-place relays to help power the Falcons (2-0, 1-0) to a “B” Division victory at Lowville.

Mariah Ward claimed the 50 free and swam on two victorious relays for South Lewis (2-0, 1-0).

Kelsey McLean won the 200 and 500 freestyles for Lowville (0-1).

GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY

CANTON CRUISES TO WINS

Canton had six of the top seven finishers in a Northern Athletic Conference double-dual meet in Norwood, defeating the host Flyers 17-44 and knocking off Brushton-Moira 15-50. Norwood-Norfolk gained a 16-42 win over the Panthers (0-2).

Laura Pierce led Canton (2-0), finshing in 19 minutes, 52 seconds. Maria Ricalton was second and Lauren Orosz third for the Golden Bears. Kaycie Saucier finished fourth to pace the Flyers (1-1).

HUSKIES TAKE TWO

Carrie Pomainville finshed second overall to lead the Huskies to a 21-36 win over Potsdam and a 15-50 win over Salmon River in an NAC meet in Malone.

Potsdam defeated Salmon River 15-50 and was led by overall winner Madi Dow.

OFA WINS TWICE

Danielle Steenkamer was the overall winner as the Blue Devils defeated Gouverneur 22-33 and Tupper Lake 25-30 in a double-dual meet in Ogdensburg. Tupper Lake beat Gouverneur 24-31. Gabby Dunkelberg finished second overall for the Wildcats.

BOYS CROSS COUNTRY

MALONE OPENS WITH WINS

Corey Lamere finished in first overall as the Huskies christened a new course with a 17-46 win over Potsdam and a 15-50 win over Salmon River in a double-dual meet in Malone. Potsdam also beat Salmon River 15-50.

Connor Gordon and Morgan Marlow finished second and third for the Huskies.

GOUVERNEUR EARNS PAIR

Jake Erdman finished in second overall as Gouverneur defeated OFA 24-31 and Tupper Lake 20-35 in a double-dual meet in Ogdensburg. OFA edged Tupper Lake 27-28.

Alex Wood was the overall winner for OFA.

FLYERS START 2-0

Canton’s Jay Kepes was the overall winner but he was followed by Flyers in four of the next seven spots as Norwood-Norfolk defeated Canton 15-50 and Brushton-Moira 27-28 in Norwood.
