DeMello registers pair in St. Lawrence victory

POTSDAM — Sam DeMello scored two goals to lead second-ranked St. Lawrence University to a 3-0 victory over SUNY Potsdam in a nonconference men’s college soccer game Wednesday night.

SUNYIT 2, CLARKSON 1

Diego Montaleza scored an unassisted goal in the 87th minute to help SUNYIT (2-2) knock off Clarkson. Clarkson (0-3-1) led 1-0 when Alex Vozzella scored an unassisted goal in the 43rd minute.

WOMEN’S SOCCER

CLARKSON 1, SUNY PLATTSBURGH 0

Megan Strijek scored off a pass from Anna Demasi in the 72nd minute to give Clarkson its first win over SUNY Plattsburgh since 1992. Kim Kenline made four saves for the Golden Knights (4-0).

ST. LAWRENCE 7, SUNY POTSDAM 0

Massena native Nyssa LaClair scored two goals to lead St. Lawrence (4-0-1 past Potsdam (2-3).

CROSS COUNTRY

SAINTS DOMINATE INVITATIONAL

St. Lawrence overwhelmed the five area colleges in a 5-kilometer event and placing 10 combined athletes in the top 10. No team scores were kept at the event, which featured SLU, Clarkson, SUNY Potsdam, SUNY Canton and Paul Smith’s.

Ellis Toll won the men’s race in 17 minutes, 30.10 seconds, followed by teammates Spencer Fausel and Jason Hardacre. Anna Rabideau was the women’s winner for the Saints in 21:11.4. She was followed by teammates Madeline Funk, Jenny Van Ooyen and Andrea Maynard.
