Heuvelton tops Harrisville in NAC boys soccer

HEUVELTON — Jeff Arquitt scored two goals to help lead the Heuvelton boys soccer team to a 4-2 win over defending Section 10 Class D champion Harrisville in an Northern Athletic Conference West Division game Thursday.

The Bulldogs (2-0 overall and division) blew a 2-0 lead but responded with goals from Aaron Cobb and Arquitt to gain the win.

Mike Guardino scored Heuvelton’s other goal. Joey Butts scored one goal for the Pirates (1-1), who also scored an own goal.

PARISHVILLE-HOPKINTON 2, ST. REGIS FALLS 1 (ot)

Freshman Wyatt Snell headed home a long cross pass from David Ames with 1 minute, 42 seconds left in the second overtime to lead the Panthers (3-0, 2-0) to an East Division win over St. Regis Falls in Parishville.

The Saints (1-1) opened the scoring in the 14th minute when Brandon Votra finished off a play set up by Anthony Gibson. The lead held until Snell converted on an assist from Reed Donovan eight minutes into the second half.

GIRLS SOCCER

NORWOOD-NORFOLK 4, MADRID-WADDINGTON 0

Alexis Sweet tallied two goals as the Flyers blanked Madrid-Waddington (1-3, 0-2) in a North Division game in Norwood.

Emily LaRose and Kim Stewart also scored goals for the Flyers (2-1-1, 2-0), while Mickey Frego made nine saves for the shutout.

BRUSHTON-MOIRA 4, ST. LAWRENCE 0

The Panthers scored three goals in the first half and defeated St. Lawrence Central (0-3-1, 0-1) in a North Division game in Brushton.

Austin Kenney and Mackenzie Traynor scored the first two goals for the Panthers (2-1, 2-0). Jenna Dufrane scored the final goal of the first half and Balma Diaz added another goal for Brushton-Moira in the second half.

Caitlyn LaPage and Ashley DeBeer combined for the shutout.

CHATEAUGAY 10, ST. REGIS FALLS 0

Courtney Boyea scored three goals with one assist and Alexis Beach added one goal with three assists as Chateaugay crushed the Saints (0-3) in an East Division game in St. Regis Falls.

Makayla Fleury, who started at goal, came out in the field and scored two goals for Chateaugay (3-0, 2-0). Hannah Cook, Stephanie Whyte, Hannah Trudell and Danielle Charland also scored for the Bulldogs.

HEUVELTON 3, HARRISVILLE 1

Heuvelton (3-1, 2-1) scored three times in the first half against the Pirates in a West Division win at Harrisville.

Hannah Thornhill scored the first two goals in the first 15 minutes. Chelsea Pierce struck for Harrisville (1-1).

SWIMMING

CANTON 119, SALMON RIVER 27

Dasha LaPoint (200-yard freestyle), Alyssa Clifford (200 IM) and Clare Olin (50 free) each won an individual event and swam on two winning relays as the Golden Bears opened with a home win.

LaPoint and Clifford each swam on the 200 and 400 freestyle relays. Olin also swam on the 400 free relay and participated in the winning 200 medley relay.

OFA 124, EDWARDS-KNOX 41

Susie Morrow won the 100 backstroke and 200 freestyle to lead the Blue Devils past Edwards-Knox in the opening meet of the season for each team in Ogdensburg.

MASSENA 130, GOUVERNEUR 38

Baylee Carroll and Laura Hartman each won an event and swam on the winning 400 freestyle relay as Massena knocked off the Wildcats in Gouverneur. Carroll won the 200 freestyle and Hartman won the 200 IM for Massena.

ST. LAWRENCE 109, POTSDAM 61

Cheyenne Padgett and Alex Craft each won two events as the Larries defeated Potsdam in a meet at Clarkson University that used metered distances.

Padgett won the 200 IM and Craft won the 100 freestyle and 100 backstroke. Ariana Frascatore led Potsdam with wins in the 200 and 400 freestyles.

VOLLEYBALL

MASSENA 3, POTSDAM 0

Janisa Benedict scored 19 service points and added seven kills to lead Massena to a 27-25, 25-15, 25-21 sweep of the Sandstoners (0-2) in Potsdam. Krista Loran scored 16 points for the Red Raiders (3-0) and Aryana Jacobs tallied 15 points.

OFA 3, TUPPER LAKE 1

Brittany Barr scored 14 points to help OFA to a 19-25, 25-8, 25-17, 25-13 win over the Lumberjacks (0-2) in Tupper Lake.

Jade Casey added 12 points for OFA (1-2) and Felicia Barr scored nine points with six kills.

CHATEAUGAY 3, EDWARDS-KNOX 0

Shelby Yanulavich scored 11 points and added 10 kills as the Bulldogs recorded a 25-11, 25-10, 25-16 sweep of Edwards-Knox (1-2) in Chateaugay. Caitlin Miller had 14 assists for the Bulldogs (3-0).
