LOWVILLE — Excessive traffic shut down the website for the Lowville Cream Cheese Festival on Friday, but service was restored by midday.

Visitors to http://www.creamcheesefestival.com received a message for several hours stating that the service was temporarily down because the bandwidth limit had been exceeded.

That issue was resolved by late morning, according to festival organizers.

The eighth annual festival, celebrating Lowville’s distinction of being home to the world’s largest cream cheese manufacturing plant, will run from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. today. Events will take place along sections of North State Street and Parkway Drive with a children’s Discovery Park at the village’s Veterans Memorial Park.

The festival is eighth on TripAdvisor’s 2012 list of the “10 Wackiest Summer Events.”
