NEW PALTZ Victoria Kirkemo and Aishvina Arasu led the way as the Clarkson University womens volleyball team won two matches on the first day of the Hawks Invitational at SUNY New Paltz on Friday.
Kirkemo had 17 kills in the opening match as Clarkson (7-3 overall) defeated Mount St. Mary 25-23, 26-24, 25-7.
Arasu produced 13 kills in the second match, which saw Clarkson sweep Johnson & Wales 25-7, 25-9, 25-18.
BEARS SWEEP, SAINTS FALL
SUNY Potsdam (8-4) won a pair of matches while St. Lawrence University went 0-2 on the opening day of the Rochester Institute of Technology Invitational.
SUNY Potsdam opened with a 25-19, 25-21, 25-23 sweep of St. John Fisher.
Jenna Blujus provided 28 assists, and Anne Fildes and Kayla Howard each added eight kills for the Bears.
The Bears then defeated Nazareth 28-26, 27-25, 19-25, 31-29 with Blujust adding 33 more assists. Rachel Auerbach had 13 kills and Howard produced 10.
SLU (3-8) opened with a 25-15, 27-25, 25-16 loss to Rochester and then fell 25-18, 25-2, 25-13 to New York University.
Rebecca Doser had six kills in each match for SLU.
KANGAROOS SPLIT
St. Michaels defeated SUNY Canton 25-17, 23-25, 25-22, 25-19 in the opening match of the SUNY Plattsburgh Cardinal Classic, but the Kangaroos (7-1) responded with a 25-8, 25-14, 25-22 sweep of Elms.
