BROCKPORT Sam DeMello headed home his sixth goal of the season in the 35th minute from a Ryan Grant cross as the St. Lawrence mens soccer team blanked SUNY Brockport, 2-0, for its sixth straight victory in a nonconference game Saturday.
Jeremiah Bunton also netted a goal for the Saints (6-0). Nate Goss-Woliner needed to make only two saves to get a shutout.
Casey Sullivan stopped seven shots for the Golden Eagles (1-5).
RENSSELAER 1, SUNY POTSDAM 0
Vince Bennett scored off a pass from Adam Updegrove in the 85th minute to give Rensselaer a win over Potsdam (2-4) in a nonconference game at Potsdam. Craig Bennett made four saves for RPI (3-2-1).
NEW ENGLAND 2, SUNY CANTON 0
Robert Millard made nine saves to lead New England College past the Canton (1-3) in nonconference game in Henniker, N.H. Rob Lucas and Zak Harris scored for New England (3-2-1).
SUNY DELHI 1, Jefferson CC 0
Joe Bythrow scored for the Broncos (1-5) in the 88th minute of a Region 3 game against the host Cannoneers.
Goalie Sam Lyndaker recorded 14 saves for JCC (1-4-1).
WOMENS SOCCER
CLARKSON 1, ELMIRA 1 (ot)
Anna Demasi scored in the 74th minute to give the Golden Knights (4-0-1) a tie with the Soaring Eagles in a nonconference game in Elmira. Emily Karpinski scored in the 54th minute for Elmira (1-3-1).
NAZARETH 2, ST. LAWRENCE 1 (ot)
Olivia Derleths goal in the 107th minute gave the Golden Flyers (3-1-3) an overtime win in a nonconference game in Rochester.
Elizabeth Howell scored in the 60th minute to give Nazareth a 1-0 lead, but SLU (4-1-1) scored from Stephanie Sayward in the 66th minute.
JeFFERSON CC 2, SUNY DELHI 1
Kayla Brown and Mackenzie Orndorf scored in the first half as the Cannoneers edged the visiting Broncos in a Region 3 game.
Kari Gehrke assisted on both goals for JCC (3-2), and goalie Amber Dibble made 13 saves.
Alyssa Gulino scored for SUNY Delhi (2-2).
VOLLEYBALL
JCC goes 1-2
Jefferson Community College lost to Monroe CC (25-21, 26-24, 25-15) and SUNY Alfred (25-20, 25-16, 25-21) before beating Finger Lakes CC (25-21, 25-20, 25-19) at the Onondaga CC Invitational in Syracuse.
Lahni Duffer recorded 70 asists, 15 digs and 12 service points for the Cannoneers (8-4).
Ashley Capone added 23 points and 33 kills, while Hannah McGregor contributed 20 kills and four blocks.
CLARKSON SWEEPS TOURNAMENT
Lani Duri combined for 68 assists as Clarkson (9-3) swept SUNY New Paltz and Ithaca in the second day of the Hawks Invitational in New Paltz.
The Golden Knights defeated SUNY New Paltz 25-21, 25-20, 25-12 then knocked off Ithaca 25-19, 25-17, 25-17. Victoria Kirkemo had 13 kills against New Paltz and Lauren Hutchinson had 11 against Ithaca.
SAINTS SALVAGE SPLIT
SLU (4-9) went 1-3 in the Rochester Institute of Technology Tournament after defeating St. John Fisher 26-28, 25-23, 22-25, 25-19, 15-7 in its final match. The Saints lost 30-28, 25-22, 25-18 earlier in the day to Nazareth. Lexi Brown had 18 kills for SLU against St. John Fisher.
SUNY Potsdam (8-6) also competed in the tournament and lost twice. Bluffton beat the Bears 20-25, 25-18, 25-12, 25-20 and Rochester won 22-25, 25-6, 25-23, 25-19. Jenna Blujus combined for 52 assists.
SUNY PLATTSBURGH 3, SUNY CANTON 0
Robyn Carroll had 19 kills for the Kangaroos (7-2) in a 25-22, 25-22, 25-21 loss to SUNY Plattsburgh in the Cardinal Classic.
CROSS COUNTRY
SAINTS EXCEL IN GENESEO
SLUs Ella Martin finished eighth overall as the Saints women took second place at the University of Rochester Invitational at Geneseo State Park.
Cornell won the womens meet with 15 points and SLU was second with 75. Margaret MacDonald finished 11th overall for the Saints.
SLUs men finished in sixth place with 186 points and Cornell claimed the mens meet. Sam Rakoc led the SLU men with a 13th-place finish.
KANGAROOS SQUADS TAKE FOURTH
Both the SUNY Canton mens and womens teams finished fourth out of six teams at the Aldrich Invitational in Middlebury, Vt. Middlebury claimed the mens and womens team titles. Megan Mydosh led the SUNY Canton women with a 19th-place finish and Justin Richardson finished 18th for the men.
TENNIS
SLU ADVANCES PAIR
St. Lawrences Robert Schmitz and Sam Mullin each advanced to the semifinals after the first day of the SLU Fall Classic in Canton. Schmitz beat Boris Borovcanain of Rochester 6-2, 6-4, then beat Jordan Petit 6-1, 0-6, 14-12. Mullin beat Rochesters Jonathan Lieb 7-5, 7-6 (3) and Ithacas Jonathan Smucker 7-6 (6), 7-5.
The doubles team of Alan Shortz and Tom Timpone also reached the semifinals for the Saints.
FIELD HOCKEY
LEBANON VALLEY 3, ST. LAWRENCE 1
Lauren Brumbach scored one goal and assisted on another to lead Lebanon Valley (1-3) in nonconference game in Geneva.
Megan Harris and Kelsey Miller also scored for Lebanon Valley. Courtney Cartier scored for the Saints (0-4).
