FORT DRUM After a delay of about a month, the posts 2nd Brigade Combat Team will head to the National Training Center, Fort Irwin, Calif., over the next week. The brigade was supposed to leave in August with the 1st Brigade Combat Team, but delayed its training after receiving a change in mission for its upcoming deployment.
The 1st BCT ended its monthlong stay Friday. While at the center, soldiers worked through a number of live-fire and situational training exercises, ending in a three-day force-on-force event.
Lt. Col. Keith A. McKinley, commander of the 1st Squadron, 71st Cavalry Regiment, said the training helped develop soldiers adaptability.
