CANTON Construction of the new light industrial building that will house St. Lawrence Brewing Co. should be finished by Dec. 31.
Over the past several weeks, workers have constructed the buildings foundation, walls and trusses at the 19 Commerce Lane site.
The 15,000-square-foot industrial building is being developed by the St. Lawrence Industrial Development Agency at a site between the St. Lawrence County Jail and Triple A Building Center.
Its starting to take shape and look like a building, IDA Chief Executive Officer Patrick J. Kelly said. There has been a lack of this kind of space in Canton. When the new jail was built, excess land was set aside for this type of development.
About 3,000 square feet of the building will house the new microbrewery being developed by Kenneth M. Hebb and his wife, Katrina G. The Hebbs will lease space from the IDA and hope to open their microbrewery by January.
Once the building is complete, the IDA will move its employees into it, vacating office space the agency now uses at the countys Human Services Building, Route 310.
Mr. Kelly noted that local contractors were involved in the project.
The buildings trusses were supplied by contractor Michael McGee, Waddington, and the general contractor is Danko Construction Corp., Massena.
The building is designed for mixed use and will be marketed to a variety of potential tenants, Mr. Kelly said.
As we do our marketing efforts, this building is part of our overall offerings for potential tenants, he said.
Having a building thats available immediately is helpful in marketing efforts.
Having the right facility available for potential projects is crucial, Mr. Kelly said.
