Clifford M. Montgomery, 90, of Chaumont died September 13, 2012 in Newton, NC.

Mr. Montgomery was born September 4, 1922 in Metropolis, IL a son of Robert N. and Hazel R. Morris Montgomery. He graduated from Castlemont High School in Oakland, CA in 1940. He attended Harper Business School in Endicott, NY where he studied public speaking and public relations. In 1942 he joined the United States Navy and was a Chief Petty Officer until he was honorably discharged in 1945. He was extremely proud of his World War II service.

Mr. Montgomery worked for NY Bell Telephone for 40 years, including 20 years as manager of the Watertown office, and retired on February 28, 1985. As an active civic leader, Mr. Montgomery was a lifelong member of the Republican Party and was 5th Ward Supervisor in Watertown. He was a Mason, Past President of the Newark Rotary Club and member of the Watertown Rotary Club. Mr. Montgomery had been an avid golfer and was a member of the Ives Hill Country Club and the Rustic Golf Club.

Clifford was twice widowed. He was married to Margaret Ruth Hibbard of Geneva, NY and to Marie J. Filardo of Newark, NY. Surviving children are John H. (Susan) of Newark, Jane Ann Montgomery (Irma), of Culver City, CA, Margaret L. (Phillip) Senn, of Hickory, NC, Paul A. (Blanca), of Lancaster, CA, and Mark C. (Darlene) of Delanson, NY. He is also survived by several grandchildren, great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be Thursday, September 20, 2012, from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at

DL Calarco Funeral Home, 135 Keyes Avenue, Watertown, NY. A funeral mass will be Friday, September 21, at 10:00 am at All Saints Church, Chaumont, with Reverend Pierre Aubin officiating. Burial will be in New Cedar Grove Cemetery with military honors. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to honor Cliff through Parkinson’s Research or the charity of your choice.
