House Majority Leader Eric Cantor, the No. 2 Republican in the lower chamber, will visit Watertown to campaign for Matt Doheny on Oct. 8.

Mr. Doheny, a Republican of Watertown, faces Rep. Bill Owens, D-Plattsburgh, on Nov. 6.

The exact details of the visit haven't yet been finalized, but it will probably involve a business tour and a fundraiser, the Doheny campaign says.

Mr. Cantor is the third top Republican to campaign here for Mr. Doheny. Rep. Pete Sessions, R-Texas, and House Speaker John Boehner have both come to the district to boost his campaign.

But this is the first time that Mr. Doheny will bring him to his own part of the district. Mr. Doheny's campaign's focus has been away from home, and it's easy to see why, with 40 percent of the district new after redistricting. But after a poll showed Mr. Doheny losing to Mr. Owens 62 percent to 30 percent among respondents, expect a renewed focus closer to home.
