CHAUMONT A Gouverneur man was killed Thursday afternoon in a work-related accident on Water Street.
Jefferson County sheriffs detectives said Ronald C. Watson, 39, an employee of Ryans Tree Service, Theresa, was working alone grinding a stump about 3:15 p.m. when he became pinned between the operators protective shield on the chipper and an adjacent building.
A sheriffs deputy, assisted by members of the Chaumont Fire Department, Three Mile Bays fire department and ambulance squad and Guilfoyle Ambulance, Watertown, helped free Mr. Watson, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
Detectives said the investigation into the accident is continuing with the assistance of the Jefferson County medical examiners office and the U.S. Department of Labors Occupational Safety and Health Administration.
