The calendar, the diminishing daylight and the cold rain remind us that fall has begun.
The leaves have started to turn, a preview of brilliant scenes to come. Yet the grass is still growing; too early to retire the lawn mower.
On days that the sun appears, the angle of light is particularly beautiful in Northern New York. Falls blue skies are different than summers. Sunsets are dramatic, orange and pinks and blues burn like fading embers in the evening sky.
As one drives down north country roads, flocks of turkeys can be seen in the distance, foraging in the fields. Deer are on the move.
Fall is a great time for a ramble in the countryside, a walk in the woods. The Adirondacks beckon people from all over the country to experience the riot of color and serene beauty of the season. The St. Lawrence River and Lake Ontario have a special quality in autumn.
Actually, the beauty of fall graces the entire region we are fortunate to live in.
Today is the first day of the new season. Gone is the summer heat. It is a time of harvests and apple cider. Look for color; expect change.
New beginnings come with fall, autumn rituals. Enjoy the season; it is brief.
