CANTON A public hearing for a redistricting plan prompted by changes in the last census in St. Lawrence County drew two people Monday.
The plan tentatively approved by county legislators splits Canton into three districts rather than two and left some in Hammond and Morristown unhappy because they would have preferred being in the same district. However, the plan was less disruptive than others and has a low population disparity.
Morristown Mayor Cheryl A. Shatraw said the plan should come to a public vote.
It should be up to the citizens to decide, not just the legislators, she said.
Lisbon resident Patrick J. Green suggested a referendum on returning to a board of supervisors.
The countys redistricting committee will decide when the Board of Legislators will vote on the plan.
