DEXTER The cause of a fire late Tuesday that caused moderate damage to a vacant house being remodeled near here on Route 12E remained a mystery Wednesday and under investigation.
The owner of the two-story structure had not been determined, although he is believed to be in New Jersey. Officials did not have an accurate address for the house.
A county fire investigator said the blaze, discovered at 10:38 p.m., erupted in the kitchen. Electricity was running to the structure, but there was no active heat source.
Dexter, Glen Park, Brownville and Chaumont firefighters were at the scene about two hours.
